The Blue Umbrella's Entrepreneurship Certification Program equips individuals with the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to understand the world of business and take the next steps toward entrepreneurship. Designed for students who are interested in starting a business, exploring entrepreneurship, or strengthening an existing business idea, this hands-on program provides a complete foundation in business development, financial literacy, and professional preparation.

Throughout the program, students explore every major component required to start and operate a successful business. Students learn how to identify business opportunities, understand their target customers, develop products and services, create pricing strategies, manage finances, build a brand, and develop strategies for long-term growth.

Through integrated financial literacy instruction, students gain essential skills in budgeting, revenue, expenses, profit and loss, financial decision-making, and responsible money management. These skills help students understand not only how to create a business but also how to make informed financial decisions as entrepreneurs.

By the completion of the program, students interested in launching a business will have developed:

• A complete, professionally bound business plan
• A business concept and value proposition
• Market research and customer analysis
• Financial projections and budgeting strategies
• A professional pitch deck to present their business ideas
• Entrepreneurial communication and presentation skills

Students are provided the opportunity to present their business concepts and develop the confidence needed to communicate their ideas to potential investors, community leaders, and business professionals.

Support for Students Already in Business

The Entrepreneurship Certification Program also supports students who already have a business or entrepreneurial venture and want to take it to the next level. Students receive guidance in strengthening their business operations, improving their brand presence, and developing strategies for growth.Students with existing businesses will work on:

• Creating a professional marketing plan
• Developing advertising campaigns
• Market research and customer analysis
• Identifying target audiences and customer engagement strategies
• Improving branding and business messaging
• Exploring strategies for increasing sales and expanding their reach

Entrepreneurship Certificate

As part of the program, all students will have the opportunity to sit for the CTECS U.S. Entrepreneurship Certification Exam. This nationally recognized certification assesses students’ understanding of essential entrepreneurship concepts, including business planning, marketing, finance, operations, and entrepreneurial decision-making. Through certification, students can demonstrate their knowledge and commitment to entrepreneurship while gaining a valuable credential that supports future education, career pathways, and business opportunities.

Supporting Students Ready to Launch Their Business

For students whose business ideas have progressed from concept development to implementation, The Blue Umbrella, Inc. provides additional support to help transform their entrepreneurial vision into a legitimate business venture. Students with viable business plans may receive guidance through the process of formally establishing their businesses with the State of Indiana, including assistance with understanding business registration requirements, completing necessary documentation, and navigating the steps involved in incorporation.Through available program support, The Blue Umbrella, Inc. also assists eligible students with incorporation-related fees, helping to reduce financial barriers that may prevent young entrepreneurs from taking the next step. By providing access to these resources, students are empowered to move beyond planning and gain real-world experience as business owners, building confidence, independence, and a foundation for future success.
